We Need You at the Zoo!
Volunteer opportunities and internships are available at Zoo Idaho for people ages 14 and older who would like to work in education, events, animal care, and landscaping. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and training sessions are scheduled on an individual basis.
Volunteer Application and Waiver
- All volunteers at Zoo Idaho are required to submit a Volunteer Application and Waiver.
- Some volunteer opportunities have fees associated with them in order to offset the costs required for training and materials.
Volunteer Programs
Junior Zoo Crew
A program designed to develop knowledge of animals and conservation while building skills in education of the public and animal care. Youth ages 14-17 may apply for a limited number of summer positions (June-August). Following an interview, all youths accepted in the program are required to attend training class as well as a parent’s meeting.
Zoo Educators
Zoo Educators assist with on-grounds education stations, tours of zoo grounds, and with summer education camps and classes. Ages 16+ may apply to assist during the summer months (June-August).
Zookeeping Aides
A program focused on developing knowledge of animal care, animal behavior, and wildlife conservation. Assist zoo keepers with daily animal care, exhibit care, and enrichment formulation. Ages 16+ may apply year round.
Zoo Naturalist
An opportunity to develop and progress knowledge of local ecology, habitat, conservation, and environmental impact. Zoo naturalists help with developing and preserving the natural habitat and ecology around the zoo and animal exhibits. Ages 16+ may apply year round.
Following an interview and cleared background check, all volunteers are required to attend an orientation session.
