• Sammy (Male) – Blue
• Marilynn (Male) – White with blue head

Age

• Fred and Sammy came to Zoo Idaho in 2012. As of 2025, they are at least 13 years old.
• Marilynn came to Zoo Idaho in 2019. As of 2025, he is at least 6 years old.

Size

The body of the peacock (not including the feathers) is larger than a chicken but smaller than a wild turkey.

Fun Facts About the Peacocks

Favorite Activities

• Sammy likes chasing grapes down the hill. It is as funny and entertaining as it sounds!
• The peacocks like to show off and strut. They do this to the marmots and visitors. They are especially showy when in their enclosure.
• They walk up and down the trails and can be seen on the upper and lower sections of the zoo.
• They like to be in the elk enclosure, but they don't go in the barnyard area.

Fun Facts

• Sammy has to be placed in an enclosure because he is aggressive to Marilynn. This has happened a few times, usually at peak breeding times. He was in "time out" when this information was collected.
• Fred is super chill and the most easy going.
• There are no female peacocks at Zoo Idaho.
• Peacocks are smart about traffic.
• They do NOT like to be chased or have their tails pulled. It hurts!!
• They get their beaks trimmed like fingernails.

Training Behaviors

• The peacocks are generally not aggressive. Veterinarian checks are best conducted after training practice, as it helps them to be less sensitive during the checks.
• They are checked for the health of feathers, bones, beaks, weight, and feet.
• Sammy likes training the most.

How to See the Peacocks

• The peacocks often free range on the Zoo Idaho grounds. They roost on top of the treehouse. They also like the area above the tan staff building by the raccoon.
• Fred likes to hide behind the bobcat enclosure when he has had enough of being social.
